  • Do not use all UPPERCASE other than for acronyms.
  • Do not mislead. Provide verifiable facts.

Guidelines for Creating New Pages

Company specific wiki pages

  • Companies may have a company specific wiki page.
  • Each company is only allowed one company wiki page. Do not create more than one.
  • In order to prevent abuse, a company page may not have any descendent pages.
  • The title of a company wiki page must exactly match the name of the company it is for.
  • Graphics are discouraged, a reasonably sized company logo and strictly informational graphics are permissible.
  • Companies which have previously been banned from this site are not entitled to have a wiki page on this website.

Product specific wiki pages

  • Software and Hardware products may have product specific wiki pages.
  • Each product may have one main page. Do not create more than one main page.
  • A product page may have any number of descendent pages for more specific information, e.g. FAQ page, HOWTO pages etc.
  • The title of the product page must match the name of the product it is for, e.g. "Cisco 7960", "Linksys SPA-3000" etc.
  • The titles of descendent pages should start with the product name, e.g. "Linksys SPA-3000 Configuration" etc.
  • Graphics are discouraged, a reasonably sized product photograph and strictly informational graphics are permissible.
  • In order to prevent abuse, services are not entitled to have a wiki page on their own. Instead, add an entry to a page that lists services.

Project specific wiki pages

  • Projects may have project specific wiki pages.
  • Each project may have one main page. Do not create more than one main page.
  • A project page may have any number of descendent pages for more specific information, e.g. FAQ page, HOWTO pages etc.
  • The title of the project page must match the name of the project it is for, e.g. Asterisk, Freeswitch, CallWeaver etc.
  • The titles of descendent pages should start with the project name, e.g. Asterisk Introduction, CallWeaver FAQ etc.
  • Project specific pages must not in any event be abused by any commercial entities for advertising.

Well known brands

  • Sometimes a company has established a well known brand so successfully that the brand is perceived to be the company name, in which case a page may be created under the name of the brand, then linking to the company page, or the company page linking to the brand page. For example, the Matsushita corporation is better known for its National Panasonic brand and thus both a Matsushita page and a National Panasonic page may exist on this site. In order to prevent abuse, this should be considered an exceptional situation only applicable to well known, typically global brands by large multi-national corporations.

Guidelines for Editing Existing Pages

Sections and Categories - Please stay on topic

  • Do not list entries that fall outside the scope of the page's headline.
  • Do not change categories to make your entry fit into the category.
  • Do not list entries in sections that they don't belong into. Instead add your entry to the proper section.
  • Do not add entries to reference-only sections pointing to other pages. Instead add your entry to the referred-to page.

Balance of Entries - Please keep entries short

  • Try to stay within the size of other entries on the page you are adding to.
  • In a list, keep your entry to a single line. Do not enter a whole paragraph to a list.
  • If you need to add more information than the prevailing format on the page you are editing allows, enter a Wiki reference to a new page, then create the new page (by clicking on the "?" that will appear next to it) for your entry and add the details there.

Ordered Lists - Please stick to alphabetical order

  • Add your entry in the proper position following alphabetical order.
  • If you find other entries in the wrong position, please help to move them.

News Sections - Please post newsworthy entries only

  • Ask yourself if the entry you are going to post is newsworthy, that is to say, does it look like a headline in a newspaper/magazine
  • Do not post advertisements disguised as news
  • Do not repost the same or similar entry just to stay on top of the list
  • Keep your news entry as short as possible - preferably use telegram style
  • News items in the news section of the home page are strictly limited to 85 characters.
  • News about beta releases and minor upgrades in the news section of the home page are limited to one news item per product per month.

Other Do's and Don'ts

  • Do not delete or alter information about competing companies and products for the purpose of gaining a marketing advantage for your company or products.
  • Do not create multiple pages that contain identical, or practically identical content. Create one page and link to it where appropriate.
  • Do not use all-uppercase in page titles unless for well known acronyms, e.g. BSD, HP, IBM, MGCP, NAT, PBX, SIP, STUN etc.
  • Do not ever post in the comments section on any page of this website to promote yourself, your company or any product or service.

Notes:
  • The site administrator has the last and final decision on all matters relating to conduct on this site.
  • Failure to follow these guidelines may result in content or page removal, repeated volations may result in a ban from this site.
  • This site is an information site, not an advertising site. If content looks more like advertising than it looks like information, then it doesn't belong here.
